Brioche Stitch
Brioche Stitch has its own family of techniques to make its magic happen — there are special increases, decreases, and abbreviations. This video tutorial shows you the two basic techniques needed to create the Brioche Stitch when working flat in rows: slip 1 with yo (sl1yo) and brioche knit (brk). When counting stitches, count only the purl and knit columns—the yarn overs are not included in the stitch count; the knit and yarn over pair counts as a single stitch. When you count rows on the RS, each stitch in a knit column is really 2 rows worked.
Make a lil swatch using a worsted or bulky weight yarn:
Cast on 13 stitches or any odd number of stitches. I began with the Long Tail Tubular Cast On but you can use any cast on and just jump right into the following rows to get a feel for this stitch. I also slipped the 1st stitch of every row for a nice, neat selvedge.
Foundation Row (wrong side): slip 1 knitwise with yarn in back (wyib), [k1, sl1yo] to last 2 stitches, k2.
Row 1 (right side): slip 1 knitwise wyib, [sl1yo, BRK] to last 2 stitches, sl1yo, k1.
Row 2: slip 1 knitwise wyib, [BRK, sl1yo] to last 2 stitches, BRK, k1.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for 4" [10 cm] or desired length.
